Each year, Glamour magazine honors women for their achievements in fashion, politics, business, entertainment and other notable merits. This year, the award to woman of the year was giving to transgender Olympic medal winner and reality show star, Caitlyn Jenner. The I am Cait star touched and changed the lives of millions, throwing light on a very serious and complex issue, gender discrimination.

Although many thought she deserved to win the award, others took on social networks to create controversy, claiming she is not a real woman and should not have received the award. In spite all the drama, Cait said she felt honored being nominated alongside other famous celebrities, such as: Victoria Beckham, Reese Witherspoon, dancer Misty Copeland, and others.

Cait´s reality show was so successful that a second season is being filmed at the moment, which will show the star on this new stage in her life, her new relationships, special moments she shares with her children, her transgender friends, all while she helps others in her same situation. Since she transitioned, Cait became the spokesperson for all transgender and face of gay pride.

The father of both the Jenner’s and Kardashians, decided to confess his true identity after his very public divorce from former wife Kris. At 65-year-old, Cait believed it was time he gave his life a new meaning and become who she always felt she was, Caitlyn Jenner.

Glamour magazine choose her as woman of the year not because of her very public transformation, but for the way she managed to show the process, educating and touching the heart of millions of families who are currently going through the same conflict.

The father of six celebrated the gala at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan, which included five lesser known survivors of the Church of South Carolina slaughter, Alana Simmons, Nadine Collier, Bethane Middleton-Brown, Felicia Sanders, and Polly Sheppard. These woman where giving the Pacification of Charleston award.

This year marked the 25th edition of this event, and it’s not the first time a transgender woman was awarded. Last year, actress Laverne Cox received the award. Still, Cait´s win has brought on with it much unnecessary controversy.
