Soon the world will know the exquisite Scandinavian jewellery for 2020, and all those beautiful and modern women will be able to enjoy an alternative that in recent years has been growing in terms of designs and materials; that is why the objective is that you know some works of this new wave of Scandinavian talent which has resorted to the advances of this region of the world in the management of silver and enamelling, achieving spectacular designs based generally on a contemporary, bold and elegant minimalism. Hence we have decided to introduce some of the most recognized designers:
Annie Berner: Coming from Oslo, this designer founded her own brand in 2016 after working for the contemporary firm Dannijo from New York. She recently launched her second collection called “Lunch”, which is based on the use of materials such as silver, gold and lacquered, presenting very particular earrings and necklaces, in which the wavy forms predominate.
Her designs have some Mediterranean influence, being observed a remarkable relationship with some designers of Norwegian modernism of the 60s that make her designs have minimalist features, like most current Scandinavian jewelry.
Sara Robertsson: One of the best known pieces of this designer is the “Flounce” earrings, which show a simple bow made of fine silver and are hanging in a spiral. This talented Swedish designer states that her designs are based on an “organic minimalism”, which is characterized by the combination of clean lines with soft shapes that are inspired by the movement of tissues and nature.
According to the designer’s own words, her style is about “another type of minimalism because it is approaching more to nature”; however, it is still discreet, clean and sober, so these pieces of Scandinavian jewelry can be worn multiple times.
On the other hand, Sara Robertsson remains faithful to her paper and scissors to create her designs, and leaves aside the traditional design that is done today, which uses sketches or 3D programs, composing her garments by hand and folding thin metal sheets, being a beautiful example of what Scandinavian jewellery will bring us in 2020.
All blues: It is a brand created by Fredrik Nathorst and Jacob Skragge in 2011, which they say emerged as an idea and a dream while they were in the kitchen of Nathorst’s mother. In that moment they did not have money and lacked of an academic formation and a clear concept; however, they had the firm intention of covering an empty space in Scandinavian jewellery, combining traditional goldsmithing with a luxurious style.
These designers launched their first collection for ladies in 2016, whose name in English is “Fat and Hungry Snakes”. It caused a sensation among its customers; but despite its somewhat grotesque name, this line is characterized by being refined and simple, highlighting the “ear-cuffs” earrings and rings in textured, fine and polished silver.
Later in 2017 the creators of All Blues created the piece called “Ruined Omelette” or ruinous tortilla, the “Ostrich eggshell” and “Quail Yolk” earrings; pieces of jewellery that had a huge visual impact on women who love different and modern jewelry.
Sophie Bille Brahe: This Danish designer became known when in 2009 she created her piece “Croissant de Lune”, a single earring that set a precedent in the history of contemporary Scandinavian jewellery; a completely handmade diamond line which runs along the curve of the ear whose inspiration was an astronomer ancestor named Tycho Brahe.
The designer began working with pearls in 2013 after her mother gave her a pearl necklace for the birth of her son. In 2018, she worked on the spring / summer collection which was inspired by a book about flowers. The style of this designer maintains the minimalist trend that has characterized Scandinavian jewelry in recent years.
Maria Black: This designer stood out in 2010 for the launch of her earrings called “Monocle” made from a thin circumference of silver which is hooked in a long adjustable chain that goes through the ear; a design that, despite its simplicity, broke with the established and that had an intermediate style between the most commercial and overloaded jewelry of the moment and the simplicity and minimalism of the new Scandinavian jewelry.
Maria Black is specialized in “ear cuffs” and cheating earrings, which are characterized because they give the visual sensation of needing several holes to be able to wear them; however, it is not so. In addition, the designer argues that although she designs jewelry for all parts of the body, her preferred area is the ear; and although her designs are close to the Danish tradition, they have English influence because she lived in London from 2010 to 2015, when she established her brand.
