In the fashion industry there are new trends such as environmentalist fashion, which is basically based on the use of materials that do not attack the environment and that do not degrade natural resources as basic principles in the conservation process that has been managed at a global level and in which all human beings must be involved through small individual and group actions, which achieve to promote awareness in the immediate environment of each person in order to add significant initiatives to this struggle in favour of life on planet earth.
There is a group of environmentally aware designers who have dedicated themselves to encouraging the protection of the environment, refusing to use, for example, animal skins, or synthetic fibres that degrade the environment. Their struggle has been reflected in individual and / or group initiatives, which have led to the realization of catwalks, such as the one made in London in the spring / summer of year 2018, whose motto was “awakening awareness and environmental ethics”.
In this way, although many think that this type of events is superficial and not enough to lay the foundations of a struggle that must be arduous and constant, it is also true that little by little wills through famous people have been joining who not only contribute with their image, but also have become committed activists who dedicate themselves in body and soul to the environmental cause and the creation of environmental awareness.
In this sense, environmentalist fashion leaves aside the superficial meaning which it has always distinguished itself for to undertake a dignified work, which highlights not only the external beauty of women, but also their role as a conscious entity of ethics and the importance of environmental conservation, to thereby promote conservationist values and educate the population in relation to these issues, making them internalize the messages and information, which helps to form more aware, responsible and reflective citizens in favour of the conservation of the environment.
This initiative of environmentalist fashion is an example of that it can be combined apparently very different elements, balancing in this way the scale in order to achieve favourable results through the use of garments made with ecological materials, thinking about the protection of the environment.
Therefore, we can observe that more and more personal celebrities join the cause of environmentalist fashion, who defend a healthier environment, where ecological principles are fulfilled and the products of nature can be consciously exploited without detriment to the environment. In this sense, we will mention some of those famous people:
Julia Roberts: The beautiful and famous actress of the movie “Pretty Woman” has declared herself a fan of Toms shoes, which are made with materials considered to be ecological, because they do not harm the environment, and their manufacture is based on compliance with the ecological principles of conservation.
In addition, this famous environmentalist brand gives as a gift a pair of shoes to a child in need every time someone buys one, which is very praiseworthy and a sample that we can benefit our neighbour and in turn achieve enough economic profits to support any company.
Natalie Portman: The beautiful actress Natalie Portman is considered one of the public figures that most supports the environmental cause because she is not only an animal rights activist and follows a vegan diet, but also, together with the Tecasan Boutique, has her own line of footwear, whose elaboration is made according to ecological principles.
Angelina Jolie: This super famous actress is a faithful follower of eco fashion and who, in addition to protecting animals, buys organic items and is a frequent buyer of “Loup Charmant” underwear brand, which uses Indian organic cotton in the process of making their garments.
Emma Watson: The successful actress of Harry Potter has also manifested herself on several occasions in favour of the conservation of the environment; which is the reason why she decided to launch her own line of clothes made according to environmental criteria and thinking about environmental ethics, which she has done with “People Tree” brand.
Stella McCartney: The daughter of the legendary musician Paul McCartney is well known not only for her relationship with the famous member of The Beatles, but also for being a great designer who, in addition to having spoken out against the use of furs, decided to make her clothes with materials that do not harm the environment as in the case of organic cotton.
Leighton Meester: She is a talented actress known for the famous TV series “Gossip Girl” and is a regular customer of “Stewart and Brown” brand, which is a fashion house that defends environmental ethics and has long kept its ecological profile, whose principles are based on the protection of nature and the conservation of the environment.
Sheryl Crow: This famous singer and fashion designer has stood out for preserving and promoting her ecological and sustainable designs, which maintain environmental ethics. Her brand name is “Bootheel Trading Co”, whose collections of pants and denim jackets are made from organic materials which, according to the famous singer, try to encourage environmental awareness and ethics.
Undoubtedly, some celebrities have achieved through fashion to create environmental awareness by the use of ecological materials, becoming key elements in advertising campaigns that bring to the world a very positive message for the conservation and protection of the environment, reason whereby environmentalist fashion has had a notorious boom in recent years.
Environmentalist fashion has also found a strong defender of the environmental cause, such as Blondie singer Debbie Harry, who paraded on the London Spring / Summer 2018 catwalk to support VIN + OMI’s eco-friendly designs, a brand that uses sustainable fabrics made from recyclable materials and whose motto is to defend environmental ethics through compliance with conservation principles; this is the reason why this famous singer wore a sweater with the slogan “Stop fucking the planet”, which in Spanish means “Dejen de joder al planeta”.
The central theme of this walkway was the problem of plastic waste that pollutes the environment and the slogans used were “wake up” and “hope”; it is about creating environmental awareness by using recycled plastic and organic materials such as pineapple peels and mushrooms with which aspects similar to those of leather are achieved and which a scientist has been developing in Spain.
This way, a group of conscious designers has had the objective of transforming fashion industry and driving it through the environmental model by environmental ethics in order to make people around the world be aware of all the good things that can be done in favour of the conservation and protection of the living beings of our planet.
That is how environmentalist fashion or ethics is booming in recent years, to the point that more than 40 million people worldwide work with an annual income of 350,000 million dollars through fair and ecological trade based on environmental conservation by manufacturing processes whose main base is the use of organic materials.
In this context, we must highlight the fact that major brands such as Levis, which owns its Levis Eco line, and Biocotton company, which is very influential in the textile industry, have joined this type of initiative. Likewise, in 2003 Nike brand began to use organic cotton in their environmentally friendly garments, as well as brands from several countries such as the British Marks & Spencer, which made garments from cotton, wool and organic linen since 2008; the Swedish Brand H & M, the Italian brand Armani and the US companies GAP or Timberland.
Each of these companies has made important efforts making the population aware of the environmental problem, which is the reason why some years ago they began to dedicate themselves to produce more sustainable productions framed with the principles of environmental conservation.
For its part, in 2006 the large Spanish company “Zara” began to develop and market organic cotton shirts, having manufactured more than 11 million pieces under these ecological principles and on the basis of ethics according to which the main winner will be the planet, and therefore, all the living beings that inhabit it.
Therefore, through this awareness in the world of fashion, you can achieve great advances in collective consciousness, so together we base our activities on principles that do not affect nature, that protect all materials and products that come from it to give us life, thus protecting every living being that is present in it.
Definitely, everything in life is about “conscience”, if we are clear about it and we base our actions on that so fundamental value for life, we would be heading towards a human, social and spiritual evolution that we need so much as race, because we should not forget that we are just another element of nature and we do not own it, so we must learn to respect our resources and exploit them in the best way possible, so that there is a balance between the material benefits we want and the natural elements that provide us with sustenance and life.
