The horrible case of Asunta has finally come to an end. Her adoptive parents, Antonio Basterra and Rosario Porto, were given 18 years in jail for the death of the young girl. Asunta Basterra Porto was just twelve years old when she was found dead on the 22th of September of 2013.
Since then, the case drew the attention of many and became a well-known case in Spain and the world thanks to social media, many asking for justice for Asunta. The prosecutor asked for 18 years in prison, while prosecuting attorney asked for 20 years given the circumstances of the crime.
Asunta was a Chinese girl, which´s real name was Yong Fang. She was adopted by the Spanish couple since they could not have children of their own. She died before turning thirteen due to a mechanical asphyxiation and an overdose of Lorazepam. The autopsy showed she had been given approximately 27 of these pills, which no doctor prescribed to her, and was the reason she was not able to fight off her murderers. Investigations showed that Antonio Basterra had bought the medication for this wife.
A rope found in the couple´s wife, which were identical to those used on the body, and the pills Antonio bought and his cellphone, served as evidence to convict them.
The jury unanimously agreed that the adoptive parents where guilty of the crime. All the evidence found helped solved the case, and although the had been in a provisional prison for two years, these horrible human beings will now pay the time they deserve for committing such horrendous crime.
Various physiatrists interviewed the couple trying to understand why they did it, what was the reason they had to commit such an unspeakable crime. The result, the mother suffered from chronic depression with homicidal and suicidal thoughts.
