Like any product found on the market, makeup also has an expiration date. When you purchase or consume any food we usually check the expiration date; knowing that if you ingest it in that state, it will be able to affect your health; so it’s the same with makeup.
Applying expired makeup on your skin can have negative effects such as allergies, infections or irritations. If you are having tons of cosmetics and rarely discard them possibly you are applying on your face products expired.
How to know if your cosmetics has expired? As milk changes its smell and consistency when it is expired, makeup too. Lipsticks, eye shadows, bases and all products used for skin change their characteristics and we must respect the date for using them. It is very easy to recognize if this has occurred, you should only be aware to these signs.
Foundation cream/concealers: These products come in cream or bar presentation. It is easy to detect that they have expired because it becomes an unpleasant aroma. Creams lose their uniform texture, the liquid part and the oil part are separated
Mascara: This cosmetic has a useful life period of three to six months. Usually its consistency is liquid, if you observe that becomes lumpy, you should discard it immediately. It is vital that you do not apply it expired in her eyes because it can cause severe irritation.
Eye-Shadows/Blushes: powdered products are generally more durable compared to those presented in cream; however, these can also expire. Observe a change in the color of the shadow or blush is usually an indication that has expired and the time has come to discard them.
Lipstick/Lip Gloss: a common feature of all the products that have reached their useful life is the smell. A lip expired usually has an intolerable odor, changes its creamy consistency to dry and turns with a bitter taste. However, this is one of the most enduring cosmetics, since they can be used for up to three years.
Regardless of the expiration date of your makeup, apply cycle is diminished once the packaging has been opened. If you want to know how long you can use your cosmetics, you only see the symbol PAO (“Period after Opening”, for its acronym in English), which is printed on all products; usually, a number that specifies the amount of time you can use is observed.
Now that you have knowledge about how to know if your cosmetics are overdue or not, it is time to implement them. Check all of your makeup and discard those that can no longer be used, although this may be difficult for you, it is the best for your facial health.
I will take note on this subject because sometimes we forget about this and then we ask why our makeup cause us skin pimples or have lose consistency.
