Tuesday, January 5, 2016. In his itinerary for 2016, the President of the United States, Barack Obama; is planning an extensive program of visits including two European nations, two Asian Nations, one in Latin America; and it will probably also include Cuba.

In November Obama plans to travel to Peru to attend the meeting of the leaders of the Asia Pacific Cooperation Forum. But before that, possibly in March; he might travel to La Havana; in hopes that relations between the two countries continues to improve.

The new position taken by President Obama, regarding the conflict Cuba and the US have had for the last 50 years; Is not approved by many Republicans, contained within are the Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz; Both, by the way presidential candidates. However, a survey published in the newspaper “The New York Times” said that Obama’s policy towards Cuba, enjoys broad popular support; especially by those Latin Americans living in the USA.

On another hand, President Obama’s efforts to strengthen ties with the Cuban government will not have much success until they put an end to the economic, commercial and financial block that Washington has imposed on this Caribbean island. Cuba also demands to regain the territory occupied by the US military base at Guantanamo; and for USA to cease the illegal radio and television transmitions; and the subversive breads.

In addition, Obama plans to visit Bogota in mid-March; in order to support the peace process that has already been discussed between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). He also plans to visit Argentina; where the newly elected president Mauricio Macri, could improve relations between the two countries.

Ending the month of April, the route extends to Germany to meet with Angela Merkel, Chancellor of this nation. The purpose of the trip is to participate in the Hannover Fair, the world´s largest industrial fair which attracts thousands of exhibitors and visitors; where the latest developments in information technology are presented, among other things.

For the month of May, he has planned to travel to Japan; for the Group of Seven´s Summit, with a stop in Vietnam. Then in September he plans to travel to the Popular Republic of China; to attend the crest meeting of the Group of 20. In summer, he will travel to Poland to attend the meeting of high officials of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and is likely to add new destinations in its work plan.

With the eve of the presidential elections, which will be in the month of November; Obama plans to visit a large number of US cities, to campaign, to build support and raise money for Democratic candidates in the elections.
