These models are headed by David Gandy, the most important and highest-paid today. Since he signed with Dolce & Gabbana, they have offered him many contracts. Today he is the image of the famous perfume, “Light Blue”; which is inspired by the Italian Mediterranean, and the beauty of the beaches of Capri. The commercial product has been so successful that Gandy has recorded with several different business models, and has always been the protagonist of the project.
Gandy achieved success thanks to its strong and athletic physics, blue eyes and a face that allows him to seem multicultural; giving him the advantage of being in several advertising campaigns since everyone thinks he’s either Italian or he has some Italian blood in him; but in fact he is a man who was born in London, and at 36 still has a lot more to give.
He promotes a healthy image, and believes that the models must exude masculinity and contribute more to create a defined musculature. His line of thought is different from what the world of fashion promotes, which still think men should maintain an androgynous image.
His presence is so iconic, that in 2012 he managed to be part of the closing of the “London 2012 Olympic Games”; appearing alongside Kate Moss as models who have been influential for the global runway, all while enjoying the theme Fashion of the late David Bowie.
Gandy’s presence has been very favorable for other male models in the industry, such as Sean O’Pry, who at 26 years of age has participated in a diverse list of male modeling campaigns; This seems to be the next greatest model after Gandy with black hair, deep blue eyes and a height of 1.85 m.
Another model who has raised the name of masculinity on the runway, is the Spanish Jon Kortajarena for his bushy eyebrows and his serious look. He has been the face of many campaigns; even calling the attention of the Madonna who will have him featured on her new video Girls Gone Wild, a combination of Like a Prayer, Vogue and Human Nature, themes of her own authorship.
The chances a male model has are different to what’s going on the world of female modeling, since women have an expiration date according to the major brands; While its easy to remember a man staging a fashion show and arguing that his age makes him interesting. Instead, women need to find another way to stay in the show. Unquestionably, that timelessness is what has given these three exemplary men; a long career in the cultural and modeling field.
