Skin care mistakes

As much as we strive to take care of the skin, we end up skipping some steps or incorporating some others that can bring us not very favourable consequences for our skin. Therefore, we must be aware of what we are doing wrong, to correct it and enjoy beautiful and well-groomed skin.

Using products not suitable for each type of skin

This is a very common mistake when taking care of our skin, which occurs due to not knowing what type of skin we have. To do this, the first thing we must do is analyse our skin type if it is normal, dry, oily, mixed or sensitive. Knowing this, we can choose the products that best suit our skin.

Not drinking enough water in the day

When we don’t drink enough water, our bodies drink the water it gets to maintain other essential functions, leaving aside skin hydration. This causes our skin to look very dry.

If we are dehydrated and consume excessive alcohol and coffee, which are dehydrating drinks. Our body will not prioritize keeping the skin hydrated. So it is important to consume between two to three litres a day of water in order to maintain the balance of body fluids and thus have a more hydrated skin and avoid the formation of stretch marks.

Using the same product for all areas of the body

Not all parts of the body have the same thickness, texture, and ph. If you use body cream for your face, it can be fatal to your skin. Since, if the patient is prone to rosacea or acne, this cream can be very acidic and without the proper pH, causing more problems for the skin. Therefore, each area requires specific care.

For example, on the eye contour we have very delicate skin. In addition, it is thinner than that of the rest of the face, so it tends to wrinkle more. For this reason, you need a special product for that area.

The use of day and night creams should not be overlooked interchangeably. Each one has different properties that adapt to each moment of the day and, therefore, should not be interchanged.

In the same way, it is also important to know what function each product fulfils: day cream, night cream, serum, eye contour, facial toner, cleansing gel, among others. Each product has a specific effect on health and skin care and you must know how to use them for this purpose.

It is important to go to your doctor to tell you what type of creams to use for your daily care.

Do not use sunscreen

This is one of the most common mistakes when taking care of the skin. Many ignore that the best face cream is a sunscreen. Therefore, it should be used throughout the year, not only in summer, as many think. There are moisturizers with sunscreen on the market that make work easier. Even many makeups have built-in sun protection. So there are no excuses to take care of the skin from the sun’s rays.

On the other hand, if you usually have spots, a high protection filter should be applied after the moisturizer. Not forgetting the hands and neck that, along with your face, are exposed to solar radiation all year round.

It is important to keep in mind, on cloudy days or when being indoors, they are not exposed to ultraviolet lights that can affect our skin and it is a mistake, UV rays are reflected and are the ones that mainly affect lighter skin.

Do not exfoliate the skin

It is absolutely necessary to remove dead skin cells from all over the body so that the skin is healthy, smooth and luminous. Once a week for normal skin and every fortnight for sensitive skin may be sufficient. On the face, the ideal is to use a specific exfoliating product. While on the body, wearing a dry horsehair glove can be the cheapest and most effective.

Exfoliating excessively

The problem with the previous point is that we go from not doing it, to doing it in excess. Exfoliating is very favourable because, as we already mentioned, it helps to eliminate dead skin and cells. The problem is when we abuse the exfoliating products. Because we can break the hydrolipidic layer of the skin (natural layer that acts as a barrier against the outside). This causes it to be unprotected and exposed and can be irritated more easily.

Therefore, it is suggested to perform an exfoliation once or twice a week, depending on the type of skin. In conclusion, with the exfoliation neither too much nor too little, everything in its proper measure.

Squeezing the granites

For many it is very tempting to squeeze the pimples and pimples. However, this bad habit is one of the most serious mistakes when taking care of the skin. It can cause a lot of damage to it and cause marks and scars. The most advisable thing is not to touch them and apply specialized products, which help them to disappear as quickly as possible.

Using too hot showers

The high temperatures of the shower water remove the natural oils from the skin. These act as protectors of the outer layer of the skin, and by removing them the skin becomes dry and dull. Also, in the long term, showering with too hot water can accelerate skin aging. As well as, elasticity and resistance loss.
