We tend to think that all the headaches we suffer are migraines, which is a big mistake; Because symptoms of this are identified because are manifested through much stronger and longer pain accompanied by other symptoms unlike general headaches.

The headache is caused by migraine is due to the dilation of one or several arteries located in the head. Characterized by pain that happens in one of the two sides of this, although it could also be generated on both sides, represented a fairly intense and throbbing pain for hours.

When we feel this kind of discomfort, automatically know it is not a common headache; and it can even be accompanied with stomach, vision or neurological discomfort. It is essential to establish the difference between both pains; Migraine is usually quite annoying and often a drug prescribed for headache, will not alleviate the pain caused by migraine.

Usually this disease can appear at an early age, but, regardless if you have it or not, can appear without a cause; although usually it tends to be a hereditary disease, disappearing sporadically and is more frequent in women than in men. There are other causes that are not given by the genetic factor such as: age, stress, anxiety and hormones. They may also be due to external factors such as alcohol intake (the hangover) or environmental factors.

In the case of the hormonal migraine in women, it develops into the stage of pregnancy, so it is normal that one of its main symptoms is intense headaches. Other hormonal causes are the popular contraceptive pills can happened during the period or menopause, due to the constant hormonal changes.

How is this pain originated? It is produced by the trigeminal nerve, one of the most important and gives much of the innervation of our face. One branch of this nerve is connected to the meninges of the brain; transmitting signals through them to cause pain.

The main visual symptoms of migraine are represented by lights of different colors or flashing lights on one side of the eyesight. These pains can be confused with other caused by an obstruction in the paranasal sinuses, in tension and stress episodes.

On the other hand, there is ocular migraine, which typically has a very characteristic symptom; it is a feeling of warmth or burning in both eyes in a span of twenty or thirty minutes, and is caused by spasms in the blood vessels of the brain.

The treatment for these pains, are anti-inflammatory analgesics; these don’t need prescription and are quite effective. It is important to differentiate the types of headaches that may be at the end a migraine, as you may be a victim of this annoying disease and we need to take the specified actions. Your health is important!
