Luxembourg, also known as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is a natural reserve of the European culture, located in the center of the old continent. Culture and nature are its flag and coat of arms, being their flashpoints of tourism with the numerous museums, theaters and galleries, along with natural landscapes, with each season welcoming both tourists and locals.
On its 998 square miles, Luxembourg has respect for its cultural background as part of its identity. In its Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art, inaugurated in 2006, works of contemporary art are kept safe, empowering and boosting artists and artisans who live in the city.
Devised by the same designer in charge of remodeling the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art has been profiled as a building of wide halls in order to give priority to the artworks exposed along the place, which are benefited by a roof full of windows that fill the building with natural lighting.
Regarding the history of the city, The National Museum of History would be the second stop to make. Located on the south zone of the capital city, the modernity of the architecture with which it was built, is complemented by the archeological jewels it guards like ancient samples of the Roman, Celtic and Germanic civilizations which settled on this territory during its first period.
Another element that stands out in the landscape of Luxemburg is the castles that have withstood the passage of time. The Vianden Castle and the Beaufort Castle are two historical jewels of the first noble families who settled in this place if central Europe.
The Vianden Castle is located at the northeast of the city with the same name. The studies of its construction were established in the XI century, and an impressive gallery of furniture, armors and hangings, typical of that ancient era, where found inside it. Also, those who can visit can take a tour through its royal lounges and corridors, observing the historical sample with which it was discovered.
On the other hand, the Beaufort Castle lies at the east of the location of Echternach. This medieval structure was built in the XII century; it was abandoned for some time until the State took it as property in the year 1981. From this castle, two contrary worlds which were lived during that royal time call the attention of its visitors. On the outside there’s a lake full of swans, which is a natural spectacle for viewers, while inside the castle there is also a torture chamber.
Although history and culture are two key points when visiting Luxemburg, one can also enjoy its most important natural landscapes. The first one being the Garden of the Butterflies which is located in Grevenmacher. Also, Luxemburg is also known as “The Little Switzerland”, because of the great cliffs which can be traveled during adventure excursions.
Wonderful place, incredible views, I got to visit this place…
