The art of painting the body dates back several centuries ago, even cavemen which after turn into warriors, saw this type of painting as a symbol of their bravery and ferocity; that after transformed into a gender which still doesn’t get its spot between the simple delirium and the artistic expression. It’s considered that throughout tattoos and piercings flows the energy, where we find connections which have always existed in our culture, and now are part of us.
The biotechnology company Grindhouse Wetware in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, started to give much to talk, mostly for 3 of its employees called biohackers, who decided to get an implant with led lights. Many people want to get one of these light-emitting diode (LED) in a subcutaneous way. It can be called the latest tendency of this year. According to information, the led silicone implant that is activated magnetically is the company’s latest creation, which works with technology that improves human skills.
The members of the tattooed community were asking for this since long time ago, contacting biohackers because they wanted to enlighten their tattoos, according to one of the implant’s creator. The device consists in a Northstar V1 chip and a LED disk of 25 milliliters diameter, the size of a big coin, which lights itself through a magnet.
To follow this “luminous” fashion, you have to get a surgery and insert the implant under the skin. An operation that lasts approximately 15 minutes where the skin has to be cut in order to get the chip in. Obviously many doctors aren’t willing to make this procedure, which causes that some people appeal to people who are not professionals, in other cases many people make the procedure by themselves.
Each time the person gets close to a magnet, the LED lights are going to light on and blink; it is also on plans that the nest models have drawings or to be able to mix them with their own tattoos to light them on. This procedure can be repeated 10 thousand times, once that gets implanted under the skin where the tattoo is, the device will turn on due to the fact that the device is created with lights which blow strongly even being under the skin.
After 10 seconds, they go back to standby mode. It is calculated to light up around 10 thousand times before the battery dies and it can no longer be recharged. The bad news is that once the battery runs out the device has to be surgically removed. With this device, the developers intend to emulate bioluminescence as seen in animals like light bugs or some jellyfish. So when it comes to decorating our bodies and risking our life, one question is raised: Is it art appreciation or a simple fad that would be forgotten quickly.
