Tuesday. December 22, 2015. Last Sunday, in an industrial park in the south of China; a great mountain of earth and rubble of various origins collapsed, producing a landslide and vestiges.
In this regard, the Minister of lands and resources; said that this incident occurred due to a mountain of earth, pieces of cement and other debris that builders had piled in the past two years, against the slope of a hill about 100 meters high; collapsing due to heavy rains in the region close to Hong Kong and leaving the ground unstable.
The number of missing persons amounted to 91 (59 men and 32 women); while 33 buildings were totally or partially buried. The avalanche of earth and stones covered with a layer of mud of six meters thick a surface area of 100,000 square meters.
After the landslide, a gas pipeline exploded, causing a trail of debris of about ten hectares and three wounded slightly. More than 1,500 people participate in the work of rescue. The Assistant Secretary General of the Government of the city of Shenzhen, mentioned in press conference that more than 900 people were evacuated from the area before the avalanche; act that reduced the amount of losses of human lives.
A group of rescuers reported that they have signs of survivors in three points in the industrial park. For this reason, a hundred of fire trucks, four drones and 13 sniffer dogs were sent to find people under the rubble. In one of these points, there are two dormitory buildings for workers who live in them; but that apparently were evacuated before the incident.
In a regional newspaper there can be appreciated stunning pictures in which stands out a building of five levels inclined and partially destroyed; surrounded by a large layer of mud and earth brown color in the industrial park.
In the following video of Youtube channel of the Efe Agency, you can observe the extent of this tragic incident:
It goes without saying that this serious disaster is product, once again; of the human error, and indifference on the part of competent organizations in the taking of measures to ensure environmental security, before the increase of industrial activities.
China is one of the countries that have experienced high economic growth in the last three decades. However, this growth has been at the expense of the increasingly marked environmental deterioration. For example, many of the major cities in China, suffer from chronic air pollution. Already a few weeks ago in Beijing rose red alert due to high concentrations of pollution in the environment. It is then expected that the Government of China, set development policies that respect the ecosystem.
