At some point in our lives we have felt discomfort and even rejection by our body image, especially when we find ourselves looking at the mirror and noticed that the clothes we wear doesn’t fit properly, or at least not as we wish, perhaps it is because we are overweight, or because we are extremely thin.
If you ever felt like that, let me say that in part is normal, because it is a process in which we are recognizing our body mentally and emotionally as it is; however, you must worry when the rejection to oneself is extremely high and it begins to haunt your mind and you feel an absolute rejection to your body, thus, being in disagreement with who we are.
The negative image of yourself will lead to self-criticism and insecurity of your personal image, affecting their health and wellbeing. You must pay attention to possible damage you may suffer if you fail to control these situations; here are some consequences of a disrupted self-image:
Depression: The constantly feeling of unhappiness, you will become a troublemaker, but at the same time very sensitive. You will feel unhappy about not being and not having what you want. Depression affects the mental, emotional processing and well-being, causing weakness, despondency, sleeplessness, bitterness, death thoughts and mourning, among others.
Anxiety: Sometimes is linked to depression, it is the uncontrollable urge to emotions. It can manifest itself in a feeling of breathlessness or dizziness, trembling limbs, shallow and rapid breathing, dilated pupils, twitching, feeling of loss of control or knowledge, nausea, among others.
Anorexia and bulimia: By simply feeling uncomfortable about your appearance, either because you are not sufficiently thin or you are overweight, it could lead to an eating disorder which does not allow you to eat properly; waking up at the entrance to the famous diseases, “anorexia and bulimia.” In the case of anorexia, you may have abnormal decrease in heart rate and blood pressure, muscle loss and weakness, amongst other problems; while in the case of bulimia: gastric rupture, peptic ulcers and pancreatitis, inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus due to frequent vomiting, and others.
Therefore it is time to reflect and understand that constant dissatisfaction about your body image could deeply affect your life. It is important that you are aware of your uniqueness, virtues, skills and opportunities, which are there for you to enjoy and practice son self-love. Thus, it’s time to smile!
