Exposure to sun’s rays during the summer, without taking into account the use of a good sunscreen, results in insolation. Not only are we exposed to it on the beach, but also when performing outdoor activities or are exposed to the sun for any reason and without protection, the burns will soon appear.

Sunburns are harmful and cause a lot of pain. That is why if your skin has suffered excessive exposure to the sun, we suggest the following home remedies that can help relieve symptoms until the lesions heal.

One of the first actions to alleviate the symptoms is to take a bath, to which you can add a few tablespoons of baking soda. You should take a bath for 15 or 20 minutes, do not exceed that time as it can dry your skin. Do not dry your body with a towel, let the water be absorbed by your body.

You can also add oats to the bath, just keep in mind that the water must be cool, not cold. Do not use any bath salts or oils. Use 1/2 to 1 full cup of oatmeal and allow it to dissolve before getting into the bathtub. Allow your body to dry with air and do not wipe away the oat residue from the skin.

Aloe vera is highly recommended to relieve burns and it has healing properties. It contains anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. To use aloe vera on sunburn, you can peel a leaf of aloe, get the gel and and liquefy it. Then apply as a refreshing lotion on the skin.

Cold compresses also help decrease the burning sensation on the skin. Just dip a small towel or soft, clean cloth in cold water and apply it directly to the burned areas for a few minutes, frequently soaking the towel. You can also add  baking soda or oatmeal to the water that will give you a sensation of relief.

If you have a sunburn, it is important to drink a lot of water, since the body is dehydrated and must replenish the body fluids. This will promote a faster recovery.

Remember that sunshine does not just dry out and damages the surface of the skin, it also affects the cells and blood vessels causing loss of moisture, so you should moisturize your skin with a moisturizer after the bath. It is advisable to refrigerate the cream before using it.

A well-known remedy to relieve symptoms of sunburn is potato. Prepare a mask with two potatoes cut into pieces. Blend the pieces of potato in a blender or food processor with a little water until a light paste is formed. Apply to burned areas, wait until dry, and then remove the mask with a cold shower.

These natural remedies will help you to relieve the symptoms, however it is advisable that you see your doctor to treat a sunburn properly.
