Sleep is essential for proper physical and mental functioning of the body. But it’s not just sleeping, but sleep well: to have quality of sleep. As better quality of sleep, better performance in all daily activities, and it seems that also in regard to the sexual sphere, so as better quality of sleep, there will be more and better sexual response.

The Department of Psychiatry at the Medical School of the University of Michigan, with the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Kent State in Ohio, conducted a study showing that women who have a more pleasant dream, not only have then a greater sexual appetite, but they enjoy more.

For the study, researchers counted with the participation of 171 women with a stable relationship, who do not take antidepressants or any drug for sleep. All were enrolled in American universities settings and completed surveys about their usual waking time for 14 consecutive days.

The research published by The Journal of Sexual Medicine says that women who increased their sleep in an hour, also increased their libido by 14 %. The study also found that women who slept more were also more genital arousal.”

The influence of sleep on sexual behavior and arousal has received little attention, but these findings indicate that not getting enough sleep can decrease the desire in women”, says David Kalmbach, a researcher at the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan and lead author of the study.

The researcher explains that sleep deprivation results in significant metabolic changes, and they affect various hormonal systems, among which are the sexual hormones.

There are few scientific studies on the subject, and studies about over sleep-sex relationship have been more analyzed in men than in women. Perhaps it is because the hormonal regulation of sexual behavior of men is less complicated to study.

In men, sleep deprivation produces a significant decrease in testosterone levels, which leads to both changes in sexual behavior and a decrease in sperm production. For its part, the sexual conduct of women is conditioned by a balance between the secretion of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.

Lack of sleep also causes at the medium term, both hormonal disorders as metabolic, and also predisposes some neurological diseases. Similarly, mood disorders (depression – anxiety) are related to sleep disturbance, closing the circle of sexual involvement.

In short, getting enough rest is important for healthy sexual desire and genital response. The importance of sleep and sleep well, which equates to eat and drink healthily, it is essential for human health, in all aspects.
