Good eating habits for children must be established from their first years of life. Although infancy is characterized by the intake of junk food, a balanced and nutritive diet is fundamental for their physical and mental development.
For a child, a vegetable is their worst enemy, but if the necessary measures are taken, and a plate pleasant to the sight is presented, they will take it as a more interesting food without a doubt, which will be essential in the coming stages of development. Aside from taking into account what is served on the plate, parents must also integrate the rules to follow at the moment of being at the family table.
Hygiene is the essential part. The whole family must wash their hands before eating. It must be an unbreakable rule, which with examples, is easier to integrate it as a habit for the smallest ones of the house. As a result, the time at the table should have as the main focus eating as a family. No objects that can distract them should be present, like smart devices and television.
A child with an appetite is one who has not consumed snacks or candies before sitting at the table. Although it is recommended that the smaller ones have two snacks aside from their usual breakfast, lunch and dinner: one in the midmorning and one in the afternoon, try to appropriate enough hour differences in order to avoid half-finished foods.
Water must be prioritized as a drink. In the case of wanting fruit juices, try to choose the least amount of sugar, and don’t even think about sodas. Considered something common, but if healthy children are desired, the most correct habits should be taught, and not the most popular ones.
Previously, we talked about vegetables being the less likeable friends a child could consider to have, but if they are presented in a varied way, you won’t have any problem with your little one finding them appetizing. A simple presentation is needed, one which stimulates interest, and as a result will do the same for the appetite. Take advantage of the typical curiosity of that age, the results will be unimaginable.
Balance should also be displayed at the table. Try to keep in mind the protein, carbohydrates, fibers and healthy fats. Always remember that balanced nutrition is the fundamental guide in the development of children. It requires patience, especially if the little one dared to try the food but did not like some of its components. Do not punish them or try to force them. This will bring more negative consequences than positive ones.
The time of eating is a unique moment in which experiences can be shared. An adult is the greatest example that children have. If you take the first step, by nature, your children will follow. Going even beyond considering these healthy eating habits exclusive for children, integrate this way of life to improve both your wellbeing and that of your loved ones.
I appreciate this post a lot, my children are used to eating junk food and it is hard to make them eat healthy, I will try know that I’ve read this.
Great entry!!! My kids are very picky when it comes to food, they don’t like vegetables and prefer drinking cola. You made me understand how important it is to have a healthy diet, I know it is not going to be easy but I will try to change their habits from now on. Thank you!!
