Being up-to-date with fashion terminology is a necessity nowadays, since foreign expressions or Anglicisms could make us feel somewhat uncomfortable if we don’t know their meanings. That is why we decided to offer you a series of common words from the fashion world:
- Klein Blue: it is a deep blue hue, which was popularized by the French artist Yves Klein.
- “Biker“: a type of leather jacket that could also be made of other materials, with flaps, pockets and side zippers, usually worn by bikers.
- “Camel“: it is a light brown color, similar to the color of camels’ skin.
- “Clutch“: small bag or purse, designed to carry in your hand, made in different materials, shapes and colors.
- “Cheap chic“: Fashionable clothing that is acquired at low prices.
- “Distressed jeans“: Denim worn with holes and frayed.
- DIY: It stands for “Do it yourself” and refers to reinventing clothes, improving or updating it.

- “Halter“: It is a type of neckline that shows your arms, shoulders and back, which tied behind the neck.
- “Jeggings“: these are tight tights similar to jeans. This word is the combination of jeans and leggings.
- “Jumpsuit“: it is a one-piece garment consisting of pants and a bodysuit.
- “Jacquard“: Fabric of large patterns of geometric figures or leaves or flowers motifs.
- “Kitten heel“: refers to fine and low heeled shoes.
- Manolos: this is the name of the shoes by Manolo Blahnik brand. It is used in the plural as it refers to the pair of shoes.
- “Must have“: are those garments or accessories that cannot be missed in each season.
- “Naked bag“: it is a clear plastic bag that allows you to see what is inside.
- “Oxfords“: Shoes, generally made of leather, which are usually flat and smooth, with ornaments on the toe and laces to tie, however today they can be found in fabric prints and even heels.
- “Oversize“: also called XXL, is a large garment. It is also used to define the style of those who wear this type of garments.
- “Roll up“: Trousers that have the boot rolled up, showing the socks. It also means the trend of wearing pants this way.
- “Shooting“: it is a photo session.
- “Stiletto“: these are 10 or 12 centimeters heel shoes, known as stiletto heels.
- “Tail hem“: it is an asymmetrical cut of the garments, shorter in front than in the back.
- “Trendsetter“: this is the name given to the person who creates a fashion or clothing trend.
- “Vintage“: it is a tendency to rescue garments or objects designed or manufactured in the times in which they were fashionable.
