Many celebrities could afford to buy the jewelry and fashions they wear to the Oscars and other awards ceremonies, but they don’t have to. But, as strange as it may seem, this is not so. Jewelry designers and dealers loan the pieces in order to gain visibility for their companies, and so do fashion designers. Who had thought that?
Jewelry stores as Chopard, Cartier and Tiffany & Co allow celebrities to choose what they’d like to wear from the inventory the designer wants to promote, in this way they attract attention, get reputation and advertising. Also, famous icons borrowed royal jewelry so it’s common to see princesses and queens wearing them.
On the other hand, it is important to note that the more famous the person, it will be more convenient to carry one of these gems of thousands of dollars. Such is the case of Angelina Jolie, who loaned pieces in 2009, for the Oscars, spectacular emerald earrings from the jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz, valued at $ 2.5 million; plus a beautiful ring with 65 carats of diamonds, priced at one million dollars.
Also, actress Anne Hathaway, in 2011, when it hosted the Academy Awards, called further attention wearing a diamond necklace belonging to jeweler Tiffany & Co, 94 carat and priced at 10 million dollars. Similarly, other actresses like Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Adams, Cameron Diaz, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence and many others have impacted because of the beautiful borrowed jewels.
Similarly, there is the case of royalty, as it is very common to observe how the jewels are borrowed or given from one generation to another, one of the clearest cases of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, who has carried a great number of gems that are not hers; among the most outstanding is her engagement ring, the same as used Princess Diana, mother of her husband, when she became engaged to Prince Charles. The same happened with the tiara of diamonds used on the day of her wedding, belonging to Queen Elizabeth.
But like everything in life, even in this issue of borrowed jewels there are those who have discordant note in clothes that were not theirs; as happened to Paris Hilton, who had to pay $ 100,000 for lost jewels that used at the Oscars in 2003; and Sharon Stone, who in 1993 was sued for not returning a necklace valued at $ 400,000, as it thought it was a gift.
It never occurred to me that the jewels celebrities wore at event like the oscars were borrowed! but I can see why they do it, it is a win-win situation. Nice post!
And we all are able to admire these unique pieces of art.
