There are hundreds of myths that have been establishing themselves into our beauty routines, whether it’s by popular belief or the recommendations of specialists on the subject, but with the passing of time, it has been proven that they are just a legend and that they lack credibility. Today we will leave uncovered four of the most popular myths that turn out to be false:

You must drink a lot of water to keep the skin hydrated; the dermatologist Donis Muñoz on his webpage states that ingesting water doesn’t affect the skin hydration, he assures that it will exclusively depend on our sebaceous glands; in function to genetic an metabolic factors, these will produce more or less quantity of fat and the skin will be dry or oily, no matter how much water we drink.

Shaving with a razorblade makes the hair grow thicker; according to Dr. Muñoz, this is completely false. When the hair grows, it is thin at the tip, while it is thicker and harder at the base; what happens is that when we shave we cut the hair at the base and at the few days when it emerges we get the feeling to have a new, thicker hair, when it is actually the same one that we cut but it doesn’t have the thin tip anymore. So, no matter how much we shave any area of the skin, our hair won’t grow thicker nor will they increase in count.

We shouldn’t eat so much chocolate and grease because it produces acne, this is definitely another beauty myth that we will clarify if it’s truth or not. According to Muñoz, the appearance of zits or pimples depends on genetic factors and hormonal fluctuations that are which affect in “the largest production of fat by the sebaceous glands, the obstruction of these and the appearance of acne caused lesions”, and not on the diet that we have, since the fat we ingest in food isn’t accumulated in our sebaceous glands, therefore, they don’t have anything to do with the appearance of acne.

Sweating will slim us down, this is one of the most common myths when we want to achieve a good figure and it is why when people workout they put on a sauna suit, jumper and thermal jackets believing that we will sweat more thus losing weight faster. Dr. Muñoz says that this is a completely wrong belief, what happens is that when we sweat we lose liquid and we might weight a little bit less, but we gain it again as soon as we drink water.
