In recent years it has seen impressive growth in consumption natural or organic food; everything is there because of the hype of a healthy and balanced diet. But in this effort to improve your diet by eating more organic and less processed foods is really contributing to a healthy life?

First you must establish a difference between natural and artificial foods. Natural foods are those like the name says, gives us by nature, these have been grown and do not carry any chemical additives; however, artificial or processed foods are those food that originate in nature, and are subject to different processes for preservation.

Now, many people reduce consumption of processed foods because these are harmful to health, but they do not know is that if they increase the intake of some organic foods, should control the amounts, since, although are natural these have detrimental effects in the body.

A clear example of this are the fruits. These are very nutritious and 90% of cases are selected by an individual to improve their health; However, excessive consumption of some of them is very harmful. The mango, for example, contains in its composition 31 grams of fructose or sugar, which is synthesized by the liver when consumed in large amounts and converted into fat, which can clog arteries causing you to become prone to cardiovascular disease. Also, you may develop some type of diabetes and get fat.

Vegetables are a natural food and like fruits, offer countless benefits for the human body, but be careful with the consumption of some, because these can be harmful to your health. Spinach is a vegetable that has lots of nitrates and if consumed in excess, these are converted to nitrite in the intestinal flora, which when accumulated may be the cause of some carcinogenic substances.

Cabbage or cabbage is another natural food that needs to be monitored. These contain some metabolites called glucosinolates that enter the body preventing proper metabolism of iodine causing problems with the thyroid gland and goiter.

Legumes are used by people who do not eat meat as a natural source of protein; however, they must be adequately prepared to eliminate lectins that are the cause of gastrointestinal diseases such as vomiting and diarrhea. Soaking them before and boil them before consumption is usually enough to make them fit for human consumption.

There is no doubt that natural foods are good for your health; however, it is important to moderate your intake so that you can use all the nutritional properties they offer. Everything in excess is harmful to health, and this includes natural foods.
