Monday, January 11th 2016. On January 8th it will be 81 years from the birth of one of the most famous singers of all time, Elvis Presley; one of the most influential performers of the past century, who became a myth and a transcendental axis around which his memory spins along with the absolute recognition of the masses at a world scale, something not many artists have managed to achieve.
The Singer was born in year 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. Always well-connected with the music world, visibly inclined towards Gospel and Blues styles, from which his typical Rock and Roll groove, began. A Presley show was the best way to spend some time. His moves, physique and crooked smile; vested him with undeniable appeal for his fans, enraptured by The King’s presence.
Presley’s fans were youthful and feminine; girls longed to be the famous singer’s next conquest, or rather his muse. The song “Love me Tender” opened the gates to success for him. Through this YouTube channel we can enjoy one the most beautiful tracks from Anglo-Saxon music, which managed to cling to the hearts of most teenaged girls through its simplicity.
Elvis Presley was all about performance and flirting, which is why some of the stricter parents didn’t like him; demeaning his music with complaints about a supposedly diabolic character, which only ended up seducing an even more rebellious fanbase.
The performer had three basic stages: The first makes his Gospel and Country sounds stand out; with inclinations to traditional American music. His second stage, seal of his youthful success, with a rebel artist look characterized by black leather jackets, jeans and for use hair gel in his black mane. In this stage he starred movies like “JailHouse Rock” where he performed most of his classic musical hits.
For his third and final stage, he shone Las Vegas style; wearing a full bodysuit with a shiny layer, a pronounced pompadour and platform shoes, turning himself into an idol. From this time, we remember Presley’s gift, the beautiful live performance of “Aloha from Hawaii” in 1973.
During this time he almost separated from his great love Priscilla Presley, with whom he had a relationship since 1960 and a daughter named Lisa-Marie Presley, now considered a famous Blues Singer. In his last years, Elvis dedicated to consuming narcotics which destroyed his unique physique; causing his death in 1977 due to a heart attack. Presley is a universal symbol of pop culture as the legacy of his music has transcended generations. Presley forever!
