This is the third fatal accident that has happened in the mining sector of China; on December 17th the first accident occurred, with 13 deaths in a Chinese mine in Liaoning. There were 23 persons working there when a fire broke loose after welding several cables together; just ten of the workers came out alive.

The second accident was on December 25th, when a Gipsum mine collapsed; leaving 19 persons trapped at 7:56 PM, local time, in Yurong. The collapse was so hard it caused a tremble equivalent to a 4 degree, in “Ritcher” scale, earthquake, causing big cracks in the near by roads.)

Annually, hundreds of people die in china due to a lot of mine related accidents; mainly the carbon extraction. One of the factors leading to the high amount of fatalities, is the lack of security measures; In which the only people who work there are desperate to make a living no matter the cost, including loosing their life.

The Chinese government has tried, without much success, year after year, to close down the most dangerous mine structures to implement better security measures; but the need to find energy sources wears down any initiative. According to official data, 931 died in 2014 due to working accidents; nevertheless, many organisms point out that the actual number of fatalities is higher.

Carbon is one of the most thought after energy sources, since it contains a lot of energy and is used widely within the big steel, cement and electricity factories. China is one of the countries with the highest carbon production world wide, even if most of their mines are located deeply underground; causing floors to sink severely, taking many lives, and affecting the farming lands.

The recovery of these sunken lands caused by mines collapsing is a great problem in china; since it makes terrains unstable, leaving the nearby villages vulnerable to possible fatal earth movements.
