On many occasions, to highlight the beauty of our hands, women resort to the application of artificial nails. And how not do it? If with these we prevent our natural nails from breaking, and the best! These are always perfect, decorated with the most beautiful and creative designs; after that we will like very female. But always the inevitable question arises, are these good for our hands? What damage can cause us? Years ago, for the incrustation of artificial nails, you could only find plastic extensions that  were glued on our natural nail and nothing else; however, currently, we have a variety of options for ornament that make our hands look fashionable like gel, acrylic, porcelain, sculpted, fiberglass among others; getting all the versatility that we love.

Although plastic nails still are being used, now its use is complemented by coating chemicals that ensure the durability in every detail of the decorations and even, depending on the style, don’t need any plastic base, as manicurists shape or sculpt a new nail over ours. Very innovative!

But among such wonder and novelty, artificial nails have some disadvantages that unfortunately overshadow its beauty; which are strictly related to the health of our natural nails and risks that may involve the use of chemicals on them.

Among the many negative aspects of the use of artificial nails, is the proliferation of fungi on the natural nails; caused by moisture generated between the two as a result of the poor adhesion, leaving a free space through which the liquid leaks. Another risk is infection caused by several factors such as inadequate technique in which often remove the cuticle, drying up the natural nails. Likewise, the incorrect use of the files and the lack of hygiene of the implements can cause cracks in your fingers.

Allergies are another aspect to consider, as using chemicals such as adhesives and gels, acrylics and acetones; there is a possibility that we ignore the sensitivity of our hands, causing redness and swelling of the cuticle.

And despite these negative aspects, it is inevitable to stop to look artificial nails, you can occasionally use them; taking into account the proper hydration of our natural nails until we stop use the artificial ones. Also attend a specialist and manicurist that you can trust, guaranteeing an excellent job with hygiene and professionalism.

I believe the important aspect to let your natural nails to rest for a while before re putting the artificial nails back on. So they breath and have time to heal.
