The idea is great. To work around the thorny problem of traffic jam in China and elsewhere in the world, Chinese engineers came with a concept of an ingenious bus capable of rolling over the cars, like a tunnel that moves on rails.
China’s Transit Elevated Bus Debuts at Beijing Intel High Tech Expo – CCTV+
This bus named Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) can carry up to 1200 passengers. People have access to it with the help of a lift. It circulates on some types of rails installed on each side of the road.
The TEB was revealed last Sunday, May 22nd as part of an international exhibition in Beijing. For the moment, it’s only a working mini model. But its designers hope to see this project completed within a year with tests of huge nature in the city of Quinhuangdao in China.
An idea that cities like Mexico, Bangkok or Istanbul would love, as they are rated by the Danish shipping company Tom Tom, the three cities with more gridlock in the world.
Did you know…
That China is the place for the longest traffic jam in history? Beijing, August 2010. A record of 100 kilometers on the G100 highway connecting Beijing to Zhangjiakou, and a traffic jam that lasted over 12 days! Thousands of drivers were trapped with no way out. To pass the time and relax, drivers played cards, ate candies or noodles sold at exorbitant prices, and they showed a great deal of patience to deal with the situation! History doesn’t tell us whether the engineers who created TEB were in this unforgettable jam or not…
