Our jewelry is our most precious treasure, and that’s why you should know how to care for them and keep them as bright and beautiful as new.

You must learn how to store your pieces and classify them according to their material. Gold, silver and fashion jewelry must be kept separate and individually, to avoid scratching the metal when it is in contact with other materials, such as stones, for example. Necklaces and bracelets’ clasps must be locked for storing, and they must be stored in a flat position to avoid the formation of knots.

Stones can be cleaned with water and soap. The natural oils from our skin react on the stone, making it opaque.

Silver jewelry may lose its shine as time goes by, so a good tip to recover its shine is to deep it into antacid and lime for about 10 minutes. As an alternative, you could also use baking soda and warm water.

Many people sleep with their jewelry on. Avoid doing this, because sweat could damage your pieces of jewelry. You should not take a shower with them on either.

With time, as you wear your pieces of jewelry, a piece of it might break or a stone may lose its shine, so what people usually do is to put that piece away and forget about it, but then if they eventually want to recover that piece, it is already too late for that. Do not let this happen. Get your piece of jewelry fixed as soon as possible.

Perfume and body lotion may damage your piece of jewelry, so do not spray perfume straight on the piece, and do not apply body lotion with your piece of jewelry on. Do that before you put them on.

Excessive sun exposure and humidity can also damage your jewelry, so avoid wearing rings, necklaces or any other type of jewelry when you go to the beach or swimming pool. Some places are considered harmful for certain materials used in the manufacture of jewelry.

Fashion jewelry must not be in contact with water. The materials used to manufacture them are not as resistant as gold or silver. You can also use lime to remove the oxide or clean them with a damp cloth and neutral soap.

Pearls require a special care. Pearls can become yellowish if they are not carefully cared for. You can use neutral soap and a damp cloth to clean them. Some people say that if we sleep with our pearl jewelry on, they will absorb the body fat and recover their natural shine.

When we are cleaning the house, sometimes we forget to take our ring or bracelet off, and the effect of detergent, chlorine and disinfectant agents can damage our jewelry.
