The Pyramid of the Sun is a true mystery, both for those who visit it and for the different archaeologists who have investigated it to reveal how and why the sixth largest civilizationin the world, which reached a population of over 100,000 inhabitants, disappeared. This 2,000-year-old Mexican monument is known as the City of the gods, and belongs to the archaeological zone of Teotihuacán, the most visited in the country.

There everything is extraordinary, it is majestic and mysterious. It was opened to the public on September 13, 1910, and it has been related to fire and water, two elements that are opposite but essential for life. Archaeologist Alejandro Sarabia, states that the original building was dedicated to a deity of the rain, a very old version of the god Tlaloc and at the top of the pyramid, the sculpture of Huehuetéotl, the god of fire, was found, hence its relation to these two elements.

Everyone who visits this tourist site that denotes the solemnity of the ceremonies performed there, can feel the energy and the impact of its pyramids. From the dry air to the immense and imposing Calle de los Muertos (Avenue of the Dead), name given to it assuming that some buildings were tombs and that they extended along the path between the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon, you will be impregnated and amazed by this city of the gods.

The cusp can be accessed through a stairway formed by 260 steps, 52 for each sun or era. Numerous Mesoamerican peoples explained the creation of the world in its cosmogony through the myth of the Five Suns.

Its name is one of its first mysteries. It means place where the gods were made. This name was given by the ancient Aztecs who discovered Teotihuacán, which had already been abandoned 1,000 years ago by its founders. It is not known what the people who originally inhabited the place called it.

Among its great mysteries, is who its founders were. Although there are different studies by archaeologists, none of them reveal data about the people  who founded the place or about who inhabited the city during that period.

Another interesting aspect is that there is no information about the reason why the city was abandoned. It is known that between 600 and 900 AD, the city suffered some kind of social catastrophe, which reduced its population (3,000 souls) and then it was completely abandoned, but there are no specific reasons for such abandonment.
