In the South American continent, there is one of the most beautiful places on our planet, the Gran Sabana, a region full of magic and spirituality as defined by its indigenous ethnic groups. Considered a lost paradise you must visit if you want to understand the greatness of Mother Nature.

Located in the southeast of Venezuela in the Bolivar state, it is 30 thousand square kilometers (equivalent to the territorial extension of the Kingdom of Belgium), and shares border with the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

Throughout the year, it has a temperate or tropical rainforest climate with temperatures that go from 20 degrees Celsius to 13 degrees Celsius. However, if your exploration daybook includes spending the night in the open air using tents, you must wear jackets or thermal coats, since according to the height of the place where you spend the night, the temperature may descend more than what is expected.

This place has unique landscapes that have been the inspiration for films and animated movies such as “Avatar” and “Up”, respectively. Unspoiled rivers, waterfalls, deep valleys, impenetrable forests and savannas with a variety of plant species, among which it is believed to exist the cure to many diseases.

Additionally, the diversity of fauna and the splendid plateaus or “Tepuyes” (million-year-old rock formations, with vertical walls and almost flat peaks), make the landscape a unique and magical place to visit.

This impressive but fragile ecosystem full of richness and biological, mineral and geographical diversity forced the government of the Republic of Venezuela to decree, on June 12, 1962, the Gran Sabana as Canaima National Park.

This distinction places it as the thirteenth largest national park on the planet and the second in Venezuela after Parima-Tapirapeco National Park, located in the Amazonas state in Venezuela; it is 38,290 square kilometers and the sixth largest park in the world.

It is one of the preferred destinations for European and Asian tourists, who shocked by the natural beauty of this place, sometimes repeat the experience and visit places they could not visit before. However, a place that does not cease to entrance those who visit it is the “Angel Falls”, the highest waterfall in the world.

Being 979 meters above sea level, the Kerepakupai Vená –  a name given by the “Pemon culture” , which means “waterfall of the deepest place”– astonished his discoverer, the American explorer and aviator James Crawford Angel Marshall (Jimmie Angel) in 1937.

In 1994, it was declared World Heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for its conservation and exploration.

The Gran Sabana is a place of special ecological value which can be visited any time of the year. A destination that you will have to schedule so you can visit this nature reserve with special and unique topography.
